The republican campaign "One Country, One Book" has been held since 2007 by the National Academic Library and the Library Association of Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the years, the reader's project has gained huge popularity.
The purpose of the campaign is to promote Kazakh literature, develop public interest in reading, promote the study of Kazakhstan's literary heritage, support the intellectual and spiritual growth of the younger generation, and strengthen the value of their native language.
Over the years, the project has organized thousands of events in various formats with millions of audience coverage: meetings, exhibitions, virtual presentations, challenges and contests, etc. The organizing committee of the campaign, which includes famous poets, writers, journalists and librarians of the country, annually reviews proposals from regional libraries and readers. The meetings consider authors whose names and works have been undeservedly forgotten or whose anniversaries coincide with the current year.
It should be recalled that in 2007, the republican campaign started with the reading of the "Words of Edification" by the great Abai. Over the years, 51 works of classics of Kazakh literature have been presented.
During the discussion, the members of the commission took into account the proposals of libraries, readers and representatives of the creative intelligentsia, such as: military-themed works in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, jubilee authors of 2025, etc.
According to the results of the voting, two authors by genre were selected for reading as part of the Republican Campaign in 2025.:
Prose: works by the outstanding writer, poet, critic and translator Takenalimkulov;
Poetry: works by the famous poet, laureate of the State Prize Zhumeken Nazhvedenov, whose 90th anniversary is celebrated in 2025.
