The main tasks of the Sector of Fiction and Rare Books:
- library and information support of educational and educational processes, implementation of the program " Reading support»;
- providing readers with fiction;
- fostering a sustained interest in the book and reading among readers;
- formation of the information culture of users;
- organization of the process of registration and re-registration of readers;
- organization of effective, rational, prompt and high-quality service for all categories of readers(students, teachers and university staff);
- organization and exhibition of thematic and anniversary exhibitions;
- organization and holding of literary conferences and meetings;
- analysis of readability and books on security, in order to complete the funds and meet requests;
- work with refusals for publications and reader debt;
- assistance to registered users in obtaining the necessary books at home;
- control over the timely return of documents.
The fund presents world fiction, works of art of Kazakh, Russian literature and different countries, poetry and prose, rare books, as well as books for leisure reading.
To increase the efficiency of its activities in the sector, with the support of students and teachers, the literary and creative youth club "Kozayym" operates, which in a short time has become a center for spiritual and intellectual communication of students. The club's repertoire includes bright memorable evenings, literary and musical compositions, meetings with interesting people, conferences, oral magazines, thematic book exhibitions, excursions, and travel. And at all events there is a book.
In the sector, a separate fund of rare literature is allocated, in which there are more than 2000 publications of the late XIX-early XX century. The main part of the fund consists of encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference books. Valuable publications are: 41-volume encyclopedic dictionary of the Garnet Institute, "Description of the new Library of Congress in Washington", " How people live in the world. Italians", "Lomonosov and Elizabethan Time" of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
